Children and Worship
There is good evidence that children learn about worship from parents who make a commitment to regularly attend worship services. The nursery and Little Lambs are open during the 8:45 am worship service and the Christian Education hour (10:00 am to 10:45 am). It is staffed with trained workers and supported with volunteers.
Summer Sunday Schedule for Children:
Nurseries: Nurseries are available from 8:30 am through the 11:00 am worship service for infants and children through age 2.
Infants (birth to walking): Room 201.
Toddlers (walking well - 2 yrs. old): Room 202.
The church nursery is a child’s introduction to the church and God’s family. St. Mary’s nursery is a place where children feel God’s comfort through the ministry of a caring and capable staff.
Little Lambs (age 2 by September 1, 2012):
Little Lambs opens at 8:30 am and closes at the end of the Christian Education hour (10:45 am.) Staffed by parent volunteers, two-year olds and young threes are provided with enriching experiences that foster an awareness of God’s love.
Kids’ Word (formerly Children’s Chapel I) (age 3 – Kindergarten):
8:45 am worship service only. Doors open at 8:35 am. Children will be returned to their families at the Peace during the 8:45 worship service.
Children will have structured play time followed by a simple scripture reading and music. The children will then be led back to church for the Holy Eucharist. All parents with children this age are asked to participate in Kids’ Word on a rotating basis.
Children’s Chapel (grades 1-3):
Chapel (8:45 am worship service only)
Children will begin worship in the church with their families and follow the Crucifer out to the Chapel following the Gospel. The children will design and conduct a brief prayer service with the help of the adults in attendance and will return to their families at the Peace. Parents are asked to assist with Children’s Chapel on a rotating basis.
