Worship Support

There are several ways that lay members can be involved in and support the worship services here at St. Mary's:

Acolytes

Chalice Bearers and Lay Readers

Chalice Bearers serve at the Altar and administer the chalice during the Eucharist service.  This is a special ministry and requires much thought and prayer because of the dedication and commitment to worship at St. Mary's.  The same can be said of Lay Readers, those individuals who read the lessons and lead the Psalms during the liturgy.  Both of these important and meaningful ministries require training and approval.  If you are interesting in serving St. Mary's in this capacity, please contact our Worship Coordinator, Cissy Henderson, at 205-933-1140, ext. 102 or via email.   Click here for the February-May 2012 Worship schedule.

Ushers

We have ushers assigned to the 10:00 AM service.   The four basic responsibilities are to hand out the orders of service, take up the offering, direct the congregation to the altar rail for communion, and pick up discarded orders of service from the nave and the narthex.  Time required is only 15 minutes before the service, through the service and 15 minutes afterward.  If this ministry interests you, please contact our Worship Coordinator, Cissy Henderson, at 205-933-1140, ext. 102 or via email.
