Melanie Barnes Bio

Melanie Barnes, Parish Life Coordinator

 

Melanie grew up in Starkville, Mississippi and after college, graduate school and living in other parts of the states for several years, moved to Birmingham in 1979.  She is a graduate from Mississippi State University, The George Washington University, and The Rhode Island School of Design with degrees in studio art and art education.  Melanie taught in both areas for several years. She enjoys working in several media: silkscreen printing, photography, and painting.   

Melanie first came to St. Mary's in 1980 and was confirmed in 1981.  She has three grown children, Carly, Sidney, and Christopher, who all grew up at St. Mary's. She has served as the Parish Life Coordinator at St. Mary's since 2001.  Melanie's responsiblities include planning and overseeing Parish Life events such as the parish picnic, the fall party, summer potluck suppers, the parish weekend, and dinners for Wednesday nights.
