What is a Stephen Minister?

Stephen Ministers are there:

after the phone call you hoped you’d never get.
after the divorce papers are signed and you’re wondering who will be there for you.
after the funeral, when everyone has gone to back to their own lives, and it all hits you...alone, grieving. Life has changed forever.
after you find a pink slip with your paycheck.
after the last child honks the horn, waves, and pulls out of the driveway—and the house is empty.
after the doctor tells you that you have cancer.
after your mother falls and you must care for her and your family.
after your friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk.
after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you could have imagined.

These are just a few of the hundreds of life challenging possibilities for which Stephen Ministers are trained to provide Christian care-giving to individuals in our church and the community. It is a ministry of listening and presence, walking through life’s difficulties in a one-on-one confidential caring relationship.
