Christian Education Opportunities Abound at St. Mary's!
Sunday Morning Christian Education for all ages, 10:10 am to 10:50 am.
For adults:
St. Mary's Resident Scholar, Dr. Fisher Humphreys, and his study, "Forgiveness: God's and Ours"
The Gospels teach that Jesus calls his followers to a particular way of life. That way of life is, we believe, wonderful, but it also is difficult, as anyone who tries conscientiously to live it can testify. Among the most difficult things Jesus calls his followers to do is to forgive their enemies. People in our world today have a deep ambivalence concerning forgiveness. Many share Jesus' point of view and appreciate forgiveness, but many others do not; some think it is an impossible task, and some even think it is morally wrong to forgive (they say it only encourages wrong-doers to keep on doing wrong). In our study during this Epiphany season we will attempt to describe precisely what forgiveness is (and what it is not). We will talk about the place of forgiveness in the Christian religion. And we will review the resources we have for forgiveness and practical steps we can take to forgive.
